How to Spend 24 Hours in West Maui

Getting There
From Kahului Airport, take Airport Road until you reach Highway 380. Turn onto Honoapiilani Highway and continue south for 12 miles. It’s about a 35-minute drive.

Build your own pancake at Slappy Cakes Maui (350 Lower Honoapiilani Road #701, slappycakesmaui.com) or try its version of the loco moco, the Slappy Moco ($16) topped with crispy Maui onions.
10:30 a.m.
Head north and find your way to Honolua Bay (Honolua Bay Access Trail, Lahaina). When the surf is down, go snorkeling. If there’s a swell, drop by Maui Surfboards (10 Halawai Drive, Lahaina, mauisurfboards.com) to rent a board and schedule a surf lesson for the day.

Get lunch at Honolua Farms Kitchen (6860 Honoapiilani Highway, Lahaina, honoluafarms.com). This solar-powered eatery uses produce and fruits grown in Honolua Valley. You can’t go wrong with one of its organic smoothies, like the Berry Cherry ($9), a tasty blend of strawberries, cherries, blueberries and bananas.
2 p.m.
Get your cowboy hat on. Ironwood Ranch (741 Hui Road, Lahaina, ironwoodranch.com) offers a 90-minute horseback adventure that will take you through some of West Maui’s tropical valleys and forests.
4 p.m.
Catch the sunset at Kaanapali Beach (2605 Kaanapali Parkway, Lahaina). If you’re feeling it, jump off Puu Kekaa, or Black Rock, and check that off your bucket list.

End your day where you started, in Lahaina, at Down the Hatch (658 Front Street, #102, dthmaui.com). Dinner runs until midnight. It’s got a killer seafood menu and the bar’s open until 2 a.m.
