Maybe you’ve been to Maui before, stayed at one of the island’s many high-end resorts and now want something different. Or maybe you’ve never been before and looking to splurge.

Consider the Haiku House Maui, the island’s newest addition to the luxury rental landscape.

This nine-bedroom estate sits on 20 lush acres in Haiku on Maui’s North Shore, close to the charming beach town of Paia and world-famous Hookipa Beach. The house, which was originally deeded to Richard Armstrong from King Kamehameha III in 1849, is a peaceful respite: The property features a heated pool, arboretum, outdoor communal fireplace, even an orange orchard and garden from which guests can harvest.

The house—which includes a second-floor master with a king bed, en-suite bathroom with a soaking tub and a balcony overlooking the property—can accomodate up to 18 guests comfortably. It also boasts an upgraded kitchen with state-of-the-art appliances, a screened-in lanai, a study, a comfortable living room and spacious dining room. The house has to be rented in its entirety; you can’t just rent a single room. (This would be great for corporate retreats, workshops and large groups of travelers. It’s not permitted to host weddings and events, though.)

The Haiku House is fully staffed and offers a number of customizable amenities and services by request, including a private chef, grocery service, airport transfers and curated experiences that are unique to the island.

All this luxury comes with a cost: Though rates vary by season, the average nightly rate for the entire estate is $6,500 plus tax. There’s also a minimum three-night stay—this may be longer during holiday seasons—and a $2,000 cleaning fee and $5,000 refundable security deposit, both due 30 days prior to arrival.
